National Museum of BiH Coloring Books
This September, the National Museum of BiH celebrates one year since reopening its doors after a three-year hiatus. Not long ago it unveiled an interesting project – coloring books with motifs that represent the cultural, historical and natural treasures of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The “Ćilimi” (carpets) book shows traditional motifs from BiH carpets, along with explanations of the meanings for the most common symbols: stars, turtles, the tree of life, birds….
The “Stećci” book features interesting motifs found on medieval tombstones (stećci) and the “Insekti” book has pictures of insects that are actual specimens held in the National Museum’s vast collection.
These coloring books feature work by the author/illustrator, Aleksandra Nina Knežević, a successful Sarajevo graphic designer who has been researching the symbols of Sarajevo, as well as those taken from Bosnian carpets, stećci and the old Bosnian alphabet (Bosančica) for use with her Sarajevo Dingbats project.
The National Museum coloring books are available at the Museum or at the bookshop, Buybook, on Radićeva St.
