A Food Lover's Paradise
Bosnian food reflects a mix of Oriental, Mediterranean and Central European culinary traditions and most meals make use of meat and vegetables. Traditional Bosnian "fast food" restaurants are called aščinica, which are similar to cafeteria-style eateries; buregdžinica, which serve pita (phyllo dough stuffed with various ingredients) and ćevabdžinica, where you can enjoy ćevapčići and other grilled food.
These restaurants are mostly located in Baščaršija and we recommend that you sample some local dishes at Hadžibajrić F. Namika and ASDŽ aščinicas; try some pita at Bosna and Oklagija buregdžinicas and ćevapčići at Petica, Mrkva, Bosna, Hodžić and Zmaj ćevabdžinicas. Careva ćuprija, Nanina Kuhinja, Avlija, Dveri and Nova Bentbaša restaurants are sure to impress as much with their first-class local specialties as with the lovely, authentic ambiance.
Sarajevo has some excellent international restaurants where you can enjoy delicious meals and fine wines. For quick and delicious Italian food, choose Spazio Gourmet, Buon Boccone, Nostra Cucina, BarSa, Tavola, Piccolo Mondo, Spazio Gourmet Belvedere or Tomasi; drop by the Smashburger, Blind Tiger or Burger Bar for some delicious burgers, whereas Arigato and Sushi San are the best places in Sarajevo to try some great sushi.
Those who love fresh fish and seafood are in for a treat at the Luka Sarajevo, Libertas and Tišina restaurants and taverns, and the lovely atmosphere and fresh trout caught straight from the on-site fish farm are definitely reason enough to visit the Toplik fish restaurant in East Sarajevo. Other excellent restaurants include: 4 sobe gospođe Safije, Kibe Mahala, Barhana, Klopa, Amerikanac, Brix, Pivnica Sarajevo, Park Prinčeva, Začin, Preporod, Soho, Al Parco, and many others.
