Orlovača

Orlovača is unique for the remains of Cave Bears (Ursus spelaeus) that have been found here. These bears inhabited the surrounding hills more than 16, 000 years ago. The cave is also home to bats.

The temperature inside the cave remains at a constant 9°C, and the area around the cave is perfect for walking, as well as for having picnics near the small stream that flows nearby.

The cavern has a total length of more than two and a half kilometers but the area reserved for tourists runs for only 560 meters and includes well-lit concrete paths.

The cave is easy to reach and is only 18 kilometers from the center of Sarajevo. It is located on Orlovača Hill, near the village of Sumbulovac and is about a kilometer from the road that runs between Sarajevo and Zvornik.

Tours are available from Tuesday to Saturday at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The cave is open from April 15 to October 15 and visits are possible the rest of the year by appointment only.

The price of organized tours for children is 2KM and 3KM for adults and tickets for a single visit cost 4KM.

The cost of admission includes a visit to Orlovača Cave, as well as to the museum located in the Orlovača Tourist-Speleological Complex.

É bom marcar sua visita por telefone ou mensagem. Há 3 visitas diárias e o percurso turístico iluminado é de aproximadamente 500 metros, com visita guiada de cerca de 30–45 minutos. A temperatura na gruta é de aproximadamente 9°. Leve um casaco. Há estacionamento gratuito no local. É o habitat de morcegos protegidos, incluindo Rhinolophus hipposideros – pequeno-ferradura – e Myotis blythii, com cerca de 50 indivíduos registados, e de uma espécie endêmica de inseto (Charonites orlovacensis), encontrada apenas aqui. Existe um pequeno museu junto da entrada que expõe ossos e secções de estalagmites. Imperdível!
