Velika Aleja (Great Lane)
The lane is 3.5 kilometers long and is lined with around 3, 000 chestnut and plane trees that are over 100 years old.
Aleja is located at the foot of Mt. Igman and the fact that the temperature is always just a bit lower than it is in town makes it the perfect place to get away from the heat on hot summer days.
For quite some distance along both sides of the lane, there are luxurious villas which were built during the period of Austro-Hungarian rule in Bosnia and Herzegovina and provided members of high society with restful surroundings in untouched nature.
As it is closed to motor traffic, Aleja is ideal for walking, running, bicycling….
Visitors can take a ride along Velika Aleja in a horse-drawn carriage. These carriages have been in operation since 1895 and serve as one of Sarajevo’s most popular attractions.
The price for a one-way ride is 15 KM.
