Chamber Theater 55
Jurislav Korenić was one of the founders and main initiators of creating the Little Theater, now known as Chamber Theater 55. Jurislav served as Theater Director from 1958 to 1966 and directed 44 different plays for Chamber’s stage.
For more than 60 years, Chamber Theater 55 has been housed in Napredak Palace, one of the prettiest buildings in Sarajevo built in the Secession style.
With a protruding stage area that is surrounded by the audience on three sides, Chamber has the privilege of being able to offer an intimate relationship with theatergoers, compared to more classical theaters with their elevated stages.
Chamber Theater 55 can boast quite an impressive history, with more than 300 premiere performances having been put on here, and 28 plays were staged during the war (1992-1995).
The theater has done productions of plays by world-renowned authors: Beckett, Chekhov, Shakespeare, Brecht..., as well as Bosnian writers, such as Abdulah Sidran, Dževad Karahasan, Ivo Andrić, Mak Dizdar....
Chamber productions also include the most awarded performances staged by a BiH theater – Helverova Noć, as directed by Dino Mustafić, and Žaba, directed by Elmir Jukić. Chamber’s stage is also the birthplace of the most performed BiH play of all time, Umri Muški. This play is directed by Admir Glamočak and has been performed approximately 300 times.
