Dear Team Guest House Vijećnica, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for cancelling my overnight stay with you three days before the Dino Merlin concert on 31.07.2026, which I paid for in April of this year and was looking forward to my arrival and the location in general. Come on, three days before three concerts in a row, but my wife, who is pregnant, has to go through the whole security with me now and look for accommodation in Vogošća and Pale because you have decided on something else. This is such a terrible feeling and experience that I would not wish on anyone. All the best in your future work and career. Greetings
This is going to be a long review but PLEASE READ if you are considering staying here. I stayed here one week ago. I want to start out by saying the location is perfect for Sarajevo. You are within 5 min walking to the old town district and 10 min walking to the best viewpoint in the city and parking comes included. You honestly can't ask for more. The rooms aren't fancy but they are more than good enough especially for the price of the stay. I'm not sure if the owner of this place doesn't know how technology and OTA's like hotels.com work in 2026 or he is a massive scam artist. I cannot say either way, but I will share completely what occurred on this stay. I personally did not get scammed because I knew what to do, but I hope this helps other people from "potentially" getting scammed if this is what he is doing. I booked this hotel for one night well in advance and paid in full on hotels.com. I never received any message or email about payments not working or anything about prepaying not being an option. When I checked in, a literal child gave us the keys and let us in. I wasn't informed of any issues and we enjoyed our night on the town and went to bed. The next morning upon check out, I was informed by his sister (I think) that I didn't pay and needed to. Obviously very confused, I showed proof that I paid online. She called the owner, her brother, and he explained to me that hotels.com doesn't have a way to pay him and it must be on site and that they will refund me after (which is totally BS). Here is exactly when I knew it had to be a scam, he demanded cash only. huh. Non traceable of course and he can get double paid by hotels.com and my cash and I would have no proof of this transaction occurring. Once he said this, I decided to message hotels.com and explain to them exactly what was happening as I did not trust this man at all. And btw if he ever uses the "this is how it works in the balkans" or "it's not like where you come from", that's the biggest load of garbage that's ever been uttered. This was my 5th balkan country and the rest of the hotels in Bosnia did not have this issue at all (go check out my other reviews, all great places). Even LUKOMIR, I booked through booking.com, was able to accept my reservation as just a guarantee without payment and then I pay cash upon arrival. So if a guy living in a mountain village can figure out their system, how can a man living in the capital city not? It would be so easy to contact hotels.com and tell them to only accept unpaid reservations. He tried to tell me that this isn't how its done but I happily explained to him that I just finished my master's degree in tourism and hospitality management in Paris and I had a course literally dedicated to how this works. Eventually hotels.com called him and he had to cancel it then and there so that I would get a refund after. I was also informed I would never have gotten the refund unless I had made him do that. I happily gave the 50 euros cash after that and the sister was nice enough to let us keep our car parked there for an hour as we grabbed lunch before hitting the road. So, either the owner of an Aparthotel doesn't understand basic technology and how the biggest OTA in the world works, or he's trying to double his payment or he's trying to scam hotels.com so he can list his place but not have to pay his cut to them. Again, the location is great and if you don't prepay you "should" be fine, but just be careful when working with someone of this nature. If he replies with any disputes, I will gladly edit this post with screenshots directly from hotels.com. Bosnia was a beautiful country and enjoy Sarajevo if you visit!!!
I was also scammed. I booked and paid through a major booking site, but they demanded payment at check-in. Even after showing proof of payment by card, they said I couldn't stay unless I paid in cash. I had no choice but to pay, but after reading reviews, I was certain I had been scammed. They must be using the same trick to deceive many foreign tourists. It's a mystery how such establishments can stay in business. Is it because it's Bosnia? Government organizations should shut down such establishments. In any case, it's best not to stay there.
It's very close to Baščaršija, which has many advantages. Considering the price-performance ratio, it's a place worth choosing. The airport bus stop is right in front.
