Child of Fortune (Dijete sreće)

Child of Fortune is performed on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, at the Sarajevo Youth Theatre, starting at 11:00, as part of the mali MESS programme. Recommended for ages 5+.

The legend of the seventh son is popular across many cultures, tied to the belief that a seventh son holds special powers – hence the name “child of fortune”. In a distant kingdom, word spread that the seventh child of a seventh child would become the future king; the alarmed King ordered the child found and thrown into the water, but a circus Monkey saved the boy. Years later the boy had grown up, and the King came to the circus. The play asks what happiness actually is and where to look for it.

Written by David Collins and Jonathan Biggins. Directed by David Collins, performed by Amanda Prenkaj. Produced by Gradsko kazalište Žar ptica (Croatia). Running time: 75 minutes.

Admission to mali MESS is free; tickets are collected at the MESS Festival offices (Maršala Tita 54) from 28 September, daily 10:00–18:00.
