Avlija

This amazing place almost classes as a hidden gem, as it is almost a bit of a trek to get to. So worth the effort, though. You pretty much have to book to avoid disappointment. We arrived, booking months in advance from the UK, just as the entire population of the US was leaving. There was a queue outside of folks hoping to get in. The music was a little too loud for my taste, playing the usual 80's and 90's pop and rock that haunts everywhere you go in Bosnia (and the rest of the Balkans, I'm told). It's a shame, as the place is so atmospheric. Local music would have felt better. Despite being busy, the staff were amazing. They seemed to teleport around the place. We got seated, the order taken, and the food and drinks served very quickly. My first taste of rakija! The waiter recommended the pear to me, as they'd run out of plum. Very nice it was too. Food was fab. So good. Good value for money, too. There's an English language version of the menu, as well as a Bosnian one. Having both is good. If you're looking for a particular dish by the local name, the English menu ain't useful. This is a place my partner and I will be going back to. Next time, I hope the music is a bit quieter, though.
Atmospheric restaurant. Even though we hadn't reserved, we got a table quickly. We had Bosnian dumplings, which were very tasty. The staff were nice too. All in all, highly recommended!
