A small museum next to the Latin Bridge—literally the spot where Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie in 1914. The museum itself is quite small—essentially just one main exhibition—so don't plan on spending several hours here. About 15-30 minutes was enough for us. For those familiar with the history of Austria-Hungary and Sarajevo, some of the exhibits will be interesting, but the scope is rather modest. The main advantage is the museum's connection to the historical site itself. Step outside and you'll see the Latin Bridge and the site of one of the most notorious political assassinations of the 20th century. Therefore, it's worth a visit, especially if you're interested in the history of World War I.
It's not a museum...more...a room? A room of artifacts? It looks larger from the outside. See the footprints outside, cross the bridge, and be on your merry way. This should be free!
Muzej se nalazi u zgradi nekadašnje Šilerove radnje, pred kojom se 28. juna 1914. godine dogodio Sarajevski atentat, ubistva austro-ugarskog prijestolonasljednika Franza Ferdinanda i njegove supruge Sofije, koja je počinio Gavrilo Princip, pripadnik revolucionarne organizacije „Mlada Bosna“.
Zbirka Muzeja postavljena je hronološki. Priča počinje sa događajima koji su prethodili tome da Austro-Ugarska monarhija na Berlinskom kongresu dobije mandat za okupaciju Bosne i Hercegovine, a završava sa Prvim svjetskim ratom, za čije je izbijanje povod bio upravo Sarajevski atentat.
Postavka Muzeja podijeljena je u osam sekcija: Otpor okupaciji; Nova administrativna uprava; Kultura življenja; Kulturna i vjersko - prosvjetna društva, štamparije i izdavaštvo; Industrija i arhitektura; Aneksija i Bosanski sabor; Atentat na prijestolonasljednika Franza Ferdinanda i njegovu suprugu Sofiju, te Prvi svjetski rat.
Među najzanimljivijim eksponatima ovog Muzeja su lutke Franza Ferdinanda i Sofije u prirodnim veličinama.
